About Matt 〰️

Matt is an internationally active saxophonist, EWI player and composer from Toronto, Canada. He graduated with honours from Humber College in 2017 studying with Pat Labarbera, Kirk MacDonald, Alex Dean, Lorne Lofsky, Brian Dickinson and Neil Swainson to name a few. In 2016 he was the recipient of the Hnatyshyn Oscar Peterson award, a $10,000 cash prize awarded to one jazz student from across Canada. In 2018 Matt joined the famous Toronto band The Shuffle Demons and has since recorded three albums with them and toured twelve countries around the world. In 2019 he was recognized as an Emerging Jazz Artist by the Toronto Arts Council.

Matt grew up with music in the family. He studied jazz and classical piano with his parents from the age of three. He discovered the saxophone when he was thirteen and immediately had a connection with it. He practiced intensely throughout middle school and high school. He attended weekend jazz school at Humber College, and was a part of the Jazz FM91 Youth Big Band in Toronto for two years. 

Since 2019, Matt has been living in Europe between Germany, Italy and France. He is a member the Italian funk sensation C’amma Funk, and has performed and recorded with great European musicians including Nathan Ott, Bela Meinberg, Louis Navarro, Irina Gonzalez, Vittorio Silvestri, Michael Santanastasio and Marco Di Tilla.

In 2023 he developed his own method and released his first two online masterclasses for beginner and intermediate saxophonists. His most recent project is a collaboration with Berklee graduate James Fernando which resulted in “The Grind”. Their first album together features fellow Berklee alumni Andrew Marzotto on guitar, Jonathan Chapman on bass, along with Humber College graduate Austin Gembora on drums. They have toured together in Canada and USA.
